Zulia, land of petroleum and unique habits

Zulia is the most western state of country and one of most important for the nation’s economy by its huge oil and carboniferous wealth. The state has 39.208,52 square miles where more than 3 million inhabitants live and also where the growing cattle-deal activity is located; placing the state in the first not just oil, but also agriculture, cattle and farming producer and it is also one of the richest regions in hydro and tourist resources.

Out of its total territory, 8.912,95 square miles corresponds to the Lake of Maracaibo, placing it in the most imposing lake of the country and the biggest of South America; granting the state, huge natural scenes along with its modern constructions, its gastronomy and contagious music, all of which make of the Zulia state an excellent tourist suggestion.

The capital city is Maracaibo, located to the North side of the western coast and characterized by its contrasts between the old and the modern. The independence of its people has been increased by the privileged economic situation of the state, which is unique in the country and also by its religious fervent to the Virgin of Chiquinquirá (also called La Chinita); as well as its emblematic bridge “General Rafael Urdaneta”, which has 28.471,13 ft and it is the longest pre-tensed concrete structure of the world.
