Located in the northeastern corner of the country, the state of Sucre is a region with undeniably beautiful islands containing 435 miles of coastline and country's most important fishing activity as well as cacao and salt production.
The state has amazing mountains and wild landscapes, natural wells composed of calming thermal waters and dreamy beaches made famous by its terracotta colored sands and the transparent water; among which are:
“Playa Colorada, Medina, Playa Arapo and Santa Fe”. In Cumaná, it's capital city, the setting brings back the disputes for the occupation of these lands; with cannons pointed toward the sea, churches, bunkers and monuments holding intact the memory of old colonial times.
Sucre is protected by two peninsulas, Araya and Paria, which create calm bays turning them into large reservoirs of marine life; and three National Parks: Mochima, Paria and Turuépano, the first being the most visited because of the immensity of its bay(which is 7 km deep).
