Cojedes, a pottery town

Cojedes is a word that comes from the Caribbean tribes which mean “pottery town” or “pottery makers town”, the state got its name in the year of 1855 in honor of the “Cojedes River”, which is borne in the Lara state with the name of “Rio Turbio” that flows into in the “Portuguesa River” in the south of “El Baúl” town.

With a relief full of extensive plains this state is mainly devoted to the cattle-dealing and the agriculture; with approximately 500.000 heads of cattle and over 5.000.000 specimens of pork cattle and birds breeding.  In the agricultural production, the most important are the rice, tobacco and corn.

For, basically being a rural state its main tourist attractions lies in the beauty of its natural environments; among the most important we can name: “Cattle Ranch Piñero” which is a cattle ranch surrounded by 3 rivers and a chain of mountains where hundreds of wild animal species live freely and protected by an ecological foundation.  It is remarkable its capital city: “San Carlos”, known by its “Racing Track” where 4 bike world cups were raced and finally by its “Bull Races”.
