With a surface of 9.444,84 square miles, the Portuguesa state is characterized for having a great extension of plain soil that represents the 77% of the state’s surface and in which it’s agricultural and climatic benefits allow an optimal development of agriculture and cattle dealing, saving over 60% of its territory to those activities. There, a great amount of products, which are consumed in all the country, such as: rice, tobacco, sugar cane and corn are produced.
Its capital city, Guanare, is well-known by all the Venezuelans like the home of the image that the Virgin Mary would have left into the hands of an Indian chief to whom the Virgin would have appeared on the side of the “Tucupido River”. It is how the cult to the Virgin of Coromoto was born, cult that brings thousand of pilgrims to pay tribute to the venerated image, proclaimed officially “Patron of Venezuela.” Where the event took place a majestic and monumental work was built, “The Votive Temple”, which recalls, in its huge dimensions, to a miracle that makes the religious tradition in Venezuela happens.
